Requirements
Following prerequisites must be met before connecting Tableau server to Savant
Access to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server with appropriate credentials.
Ensure the linked Tableau user account has at least viewer role in Tableau.
Familiarity with Tableau Cloud, Tableau Server, and datasets will be beneficial.
Connection Methods
Savant supports multiple connection methods including the below mentioned for secure access:
User Name and Password (Not supported for concurrent sessions).
Personal Access Tokens (PAT).
This step-by-step guide ensures you can efficiently set up your environment for optimal data integration.
Username and Password Method
Step 1: Find the site URL
Site Home URL: To find this, go to the home page of your Tableau Cloud account. The URL should match the following format:
https://SERVER_URL/#/site/SITE_NAME/home.
Step 2: Enter the Username and Password
Personal Access Token Method
Step 1: Find the site URL

Step 2: Creating a new token
In Tableau, navigate to My Account Settings and scroll down to the Security section.
Under Personal Access Tokens, click Create new token.
Enter a Token Name and click Create new token.
Copy the Token Secret from the pop-up window.
Paste the Token Name and Token Secret into the respective fields in Savant.
Step 3: Authentication
Once all the required fields are filled out, click Authenticate.
Savant will process the authentication, and you will be prompted to optionally rename your Tableau system and add a description.
After completing this, click Confirm.
Connecting Data from Tableau
Once Tableau is authenticated, you can begin connecting and integrating data into Savant for analysis.
Step 1: Add Tableau Dataset
If you're working within an analysis:
In the top left corner of your canvas, click the Add Dataset button.
Select your authenticated Tableau connection from the available options.
If you're not within an analysis:
Navigate to Data and click on New Dataset.
Choose your authenticated Tableau system from the list of available systems and click Next.
Step 2: Configure Dataset
In the Configure Dataset section, you will select the relevant Schema and Object for your dataset.
Schema refers to Tableau Workbooks.
Object refers to Tableau Views.
Select the desired Workbook and View, then click Next.
Step 3: Name and Confirm Dataset
Finally, give your dataset a name and an optional description. Once you're satisfied, click Confirm.
Your Tableau data is now successfully integrated into your Savant analysis!

Publishing Data to Tableau
Savant supports publishing data back to both Tableau Cloud and Tableau Server. This functionality allows you to write back analysis results or updates from Savant into Tableau.
Supported Operations
Create Data Source: Create a new data source in Tableau.
Replace Data Source: Replace an existing data source in Tableau with new data.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during the Tableau authentication or integration process, here are some common solutions:
Incorrect Credentials: Double-check that the Username, Password, or Personal Access Token are correctly entered.
Permissions: Ensure the Tableau user account has at least the Viewer role and sufficient access to the relevant workbooks and views.
URL Format: Ensure the Site Home URL follows the correct format for your Tableau environment (e.g.,
https://SERVER_URL/#/site/SITE_NAME/home).Connection Issues: Verify there are no connectivity issues between Savant and Tableau, especially if using a firewall or VPN.
