Savant uses a managed email service to send automated emails from the Email destination. To improve email deliverability and reduce phishing warnings, configure your email environment to trust authenticated messages sent by Savant.
This article provides the information your IT or security team needs to configure your email security policies.
Email configuration
Use the following information when configuring your email environment.
Setting | Value |
Sending domain |
|
Email authentication | SPF, DKIM, and DMARC |
Recommended allowlisting | Sending domain and DKIM authentication |
IP allowlisting | Not recommended |
How Savant sends email
The Email destination sends automated emails using Savant's managed email infrastructure. This allows organizations to send reports and notifications without configuring or maintaining their own SMTP server.
Because emails are sent from a Savant-managed domain instead of your organization's domain, some email clients or security tools may display informational banners until the sender becomes trusted.
Depending on your organization's email security policies, recipients may see:
You don't often get email from this sender
External sender banners
Warnings for unfamiliar senders
These warnings are generated by the recipient's email environment and do not indicate that the email is unsafe.
Recommended configuration
To improve email deliverability and reduce phishing warnings, configure your email environment using the following recommendations.
Allowlist the sending domain: Add the following domain to your organization's trusted sender or allowlist policy.
alert.savantlabs.io
Trust authenticated email: Configure your email security platform to trust messages that pass DKIM validation.
Avoid IP-based allowlists: Savant sends email using shared email infrastructure, so outbound IP addresses are not fixed and may change over time. Instead of maintaining IP-based allowlists, allowlist the sending domain and trust DKIM-authenticated email.
Help recipients recognize automated emails
The following recommendations can help recipients recognize automated emails sent by Savant.
Recommendation | Benefit |
Add a short introduction | Include a brief explanation at the beginning of the email so recipients understand why they received it. |
Configure the Reply-To address | Use a monitored internal mailbox so recipients can reply directly to someone within your organization. |
Notify recipients before the first report | Send a one-time announcement explaining who is sending the report, how often it will be delivered, and what it contains. |
Use links instead of attachments | Where appropriate, include links to reports instead of attaching files. Attachments from unfamiliar senders often receive additional scrutiny from users and email security tools. |
For example, you might begin an email with:
This is an automated report sent by the Finance team via Savant. Reply directly to the report owner if you have questions.
Frequently asked questions
Send emails from your organization's domain
The Email destination sends email using Savant's managed email infrastructure. It doesn't support sending email directly from your organization's domain. You can configure the sender name and Reply-To address, but the underlying sending domain remains a Savant-managed domain.
Outlook warning messages
Microsoft Outlook may display messages such as "You don't often get email from this sender" when recipients receive email from an unfamiliar sender.
This message is generated by Outlook and does not indicate that the email is malicious.
After your organization recognizes or allowlists the sending domain, recipients may see this message less frequently.
